David was born June 1, 1951, in Boone. He graduated from Boone High School in 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany and Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1971, as a Specialist Five. He was a member of American Legion Post 298, Marion.
David married Rheanne Huffman on April 13, 1974, in Boone. They renewed their vows June 17, 1995, in Mount Vernon. For 36 years, David worked as a maintenance machinist for Midland Forge in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of I.M.A.W. Union Local 831, Cedar Rapids.
David enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and trail riding on his horse, Jet. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He tinkered in his “getaway,” restoring his 1972 Corvette. “David was always there when anyone needed him and his special talents. He never knew a stranger.”
David was Rheanne's rock, and kept her feet on the ground. “If it's beyond your control, then don't worry about it. If you can control it do something about it, or just let it go.”
A memorial fund in David's honor has been established.
