Therese L. (Friedel) Patterson, 87, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City. A time of visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Therese Louise Friedel was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Des Moines, the daughter of Edwin A. and Bridget "Agnes" (Miller) Friedel. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines, with the class of 1947, and on April 11, 1953, married Dwaine A. Patterson. While in Des Moines, Therese worked for her father as a bookkeeper at Des Moines Welding, then at Younkers and the Iowa Parcel Service. After moving to the Iowa City/Coralville area, she worked at Drug Fair and then Coralville Liquor store. She had been an adviser for Catholic Daughters and was a Boy and Girl Scout leader for troops in Des Moines. Therese also will be remembered for her love of crafting and the crafts she made for so many people.
Her family includes her children, Kathleen Pearson of Solon, Mary Alice Wright (Roger) of Oxford, Patricia Majer (Steve) of Toledo, Ohio, Byron Patterson (Ann) of Des Moines and Edwin Patterson (Joni) of Pinellas Park, Fla.; her sister, Rosemary Kuhse of Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwaine, in 1996; parents; and brothers, Lawrence and Edwin Friedel.
