Therese Ockenfels Johnson, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Mercy Hallmar. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church by the Rev. Ken Glaser. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Vigil will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not attending the vigil service may visit with the family from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home or on Tuesday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Therese is survived by her sons, Robert D. Johnson of Chicago and Tom (Faith) Johnson of Aurora, Colo.; daughter, Julia Johnson of Franktown, Colo.; four grandchildren, Toby Weinbruch, Britni Johnson, Erika Johnson and Graham Johnson; sisters, Marjorie McFate and Rose Mary Beadle, both of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn Gooding of Iowa Falls and Virginia (Neil Scarlet) Storjohann of Centennial, Colo.; brother, Larry Ockenfels of Swisher; sister-in-law, Betty Ockenfels of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, in 1993; son, James Johnson, in 2018; brothers, Dick Ockenfels and Maurice “Mort” (Marceyne) Ockenfels; sister, Carolyn (Mert) Dohrer; brothers-in-law, Bud Beadle, Ray McFate, Ken Gooding, Jim Cash, Verne Hamlin, Bob Storjohann and Keith Johnson; sister-in-law Mary Ockenfels; and companion Clair Rausch.

Therese was born on March 8, 1932, in Norway, daughter of John and Lillian Delaney Ockenfels. She graduated in 1950 from Newhall High School and from Loras College School of Nursing in 1953.

Therese married Roger Johnson on Oct. 8, 1955, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. She was a registered nurse, and during the years worked for Mercy Hospital, the University of Iowa Hospital, Dr. Julius Pietrizek and was a school nurse at Prairie High School. Therese was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church.

Therese enjoyed refinishing furniture, going to garage sales and baking tasty treats. She also liked to square dance, travel and go on motorcycle rides with Roger. Most of all, Therese loved family time with her children, grandchildren and her extended family. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
