Therese Melchert, 90, died Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Emory Place Care Center, Robins, following a brief illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2022, at St. Luke Catholic Church, Hopkinton, with interment in the Hopkinton, Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where a parish vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Visitation at the church will resume at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Surviving are seven daughters, Peg McNamara, Ryan, Diana Melchert, Arlington, Texas, Paula (Leo) Woods, Ryan, Lynne (George) Cantu, Austin, Texas, Gayle (Kevin) Funke, Hopkinton, Marla (Bill) Wright, Mount Vernon, and Joyce George, Flower Mound, Texas; three sons, Jim (Pam), Hopkinton, Kevin (Miquel), Ely, and Corey (Tammy), Hopkinton; 25 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Hosch, Janet Marbach and Virginia (William) Uhlenkamp; and in-laws, Kay Becker, Helen Becker, Katie Melchert, Jane Melchert and Yvonne Cole. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon in 2015; a son-in-law, Don McNamara; a grandson, Kyle Woods; a great-grandson, Micah Cantu; three brothers, Gilbert, Kenneth and Vernon Becker; an infant brother, Vincent; and an infant sister, Rita.
Therese Catherine Becker was born Jan. 9, 1932, at Worthington, Iowa. She was the daughter of Reynold and Erma Gudenkauf, Becker. Therese received her education in the rural schools near her home and at St. Paul’s Catholic School in Worthington. She worked on the family farm and also as a hired girl on neighboring farms. Therese Becker and Vernon Melchert were married on Aug. 20, 1951, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton. Therese worked at Bette’s Café in Hopkinton.
