He attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. He married Grace Elizabeth Johnson on July 23, 1948. After college, Ted worked in sales for Crescent Electric Supply Co. in Davenport. He was transferred to Cedar Rapids in 1957, where he raised his five children. In 1979, Ted was promoted to branch manager of the Lincoln Crescent location, where he worked until he retired in 1991.
"Mr. Ted" will be remembered for his razor sharp wit and sense of humor. He loved to golf and swim year round, logging over 3,000 miles. He enjoyed woodworking and made his signature coat racks for family and neighbors. His family was the joy of his life. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, chatting with family on Facebook and swapping stories around the table. He was a faithful member of the El Kahir Shrine for 50 years and a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lincoln.
Ted is survived by his wife of 68 years, Grace; children, Cynthia Dofton (Paul), Huntington Beach, Calif., Judith Nelson, Minneapolis, Constance Thorson (Jonathan), Lincoln, Neb., Theodore Weigandt Jr. (Cindy), Cedar Rapids, and Todd Weigandt (Angela), Lee's Summit, Mo., nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Emma Weigandt; and sister, Elaine Johnston, all of Moline.
