In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Surviving are two sons, Brian (Jill) Darrow, Anamosa, and Arthur (Rae) Darrow, Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren, Anne Clark, Paul Sauer, Thomas Darrow, Alissa Darrow Plack, Ethan Darrow and Ashton Stegemann; and her sister, Velma "Doll" Hahn, San Francisco, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; a brother, Courtney Cook; and four sisters, Josephine Dismukes, Katherine Korioth, Phyllis Sanders and Emma Bess Cook.
Thelma Arthurlene Cook was born June 27, 1923, in Sherman, Texas, the daughter of Arthur Thomas and Ruth Isabel Nickels Cook. Thelma graduated from Sherman, Texas, High School in 1940. Thelma met Lloyd Darrow while he was stationed at Perrin Army Air Field. The couple married Oct. 4, 1943, in Rapid City, S.D. They returned to Iowa following Lloyd's discharge from military service in October 1945.
In September 1948, Thelma went to work for the law firm of Reese, Remley and Heiserman. She was employed there for 50 years and as the partners changed, retired from the firm of Remley, Willims and McQuillen. Thelma then went to work for her son, Brian, at the Anamosa Veterinary Clinic.
When Thelma was not working, she was going to all of her grandchildren's events. She loved to paint and belonged to the Paint and Palette Club. Her fried chicken and pies were legendary. Thelma never lost her "Texas Pride" even after living in Iowa for close to 70 years.
