Theda Gay Hurn, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will be held Friday, May 3, 2024, 11:00 am, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will begin from 9:00 am-11:00 am prior to the service at the Chapel. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children; Michael (Linda) Hurn, of Clearwater, Florida, Thomas (Lisa) Hurn, of Cedar Rapids, Derenda Hurn, of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Sue, Carol, and Linda; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Hogan and Ethel Reeser; sisters, Virginia Lee Hogan, Jean Long; and her husband, Pete.
Theda was born March 26, 1932, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She married her sweetheart, Pete on September 18, 1948. She loved her family, Christmas, and many church activities. She was a very dedicated Christ follower and proclaimed biblical truth boldly. Because of their Love for Jesus, Theda and Pete were involved in the planting of four Southern Baptist Churches in Iowa. She enjoyed hosting in home Bible studies, teaching Sunday school, and vacation Bible school, along with serving others.
A special thank-you to the nurses of St. Luke’s ICU, especially Valerie and Lauren, for their care of Theda.
