Thea Nicole Swanson, 32, of Aurora, Colo., passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Oct. 8, 1981, to Don and Lin Swanson. Thea graduated from Prairie High School and Kirkwood Community College and was attending Metropolitan State University of Denver. Thea loved working with children. She was a nanny for seven years to her nephews, worked at Auraria Early Learning Center in downtown Denver and tutored elementary students.
From running half marathons and hiking 14s to volunteering her time with Habitat For Humanity, Denver Art Museum and mentoring at-risk families, Thea shared her passion for life with all she encountered.
Thea is survived by her parents, Don and Lin Swanson of Walford; and sister and brother-in-law, Emilee and Toso Chavez; and her nephews, TJ, Chase and Gage Chavez, of Aurora, Colo.
Her wonderful spirit, joy and talents will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 18. The 2 p.m. memorial service will be held at Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 S. Datura St., Littleton, CO 80120. A reception celebrating Thea's life will follow the memorial service at the church.
A memorial scholarship in Thea's name has been established at the Littleton United Methodist Church.
