The Rev. William Richard "Bill" Riley, 86, of Solon, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2021, Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown, Iowa, with Pastor Max Mons officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are with Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
William Riley was born on Dec. 10, 1934, to William Riley and Essie (Van Alstyne) Riley in St. Paul, Minn. He was baptized in April of 1935 and gained the victory that Christ won for him. He married Joyce Kay (Simmons) Danker on July 16, 1976.
William is survived by three children, Terry (Patty), Larry (Valerie) and Valerie (David) Haney; stepchildren, Julie (Thomas) Trachta, John (Lori) Danker and Jayne (John) Salzbrenner; two sisters, Kathleen and Karen; one brother, Edward (Frances); a daughter-in-law, Sharon; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elaine (Blaine) Simmons; two brothers-in-law, Dennis (Ruth) and Joe (Mary); and several nieces and nephews.
William was preceded in death by his wife Joyce; son, Garry; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Chapel and University Center, 404 E Jefferson St., Iowa City, IA 52245.
