The Rev. Martin John Marquardt, 89, of Cedar Rapids died Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at the Davenport Lutheran Home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brad Brown. Burial: St. Stephens in Atkins. Friends may visit with the family at Teahen Funeral Home Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. and on Friday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Martin is survived by his wife of 52 years Dorothy; two daughters, Martha (Charles) Schaum and Renate Marquardt; two sons, Andrew and Jeremy Marquardt; grandchildren, Katherine and Roald Schaum; brothers, Leonard Marquardt and Ronald Marquardt; and many nieces and nephews.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Rev. Elvin Marquardt and Harold Marquardt.
Martin was born on April 29, 1933, the son of Otto and Emma Gosch Marquardt in Canistota, S.D. After graduation from high school, Martin attended Concordia College in St. Paul, Minn. He continued his studies for the pastoral ministry at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, which included a year’s vicarage in northern California. He graduated in June of 1959. He was baptized, confirmed, and ordained at Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota, S.D. On June 28, 1970, he married Dorothy Sultze at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minn.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to The Lutheran Hour.
