Edgewood
Gene Jewell of El Dorado Hills, Calif., 83, formerly of Edgewood, went home to his Lord and Savior on March 12, 2018.
He was born in a log cabin by Littleport. After graduating from Edgewood High School, he went to California and worked as a telegrapher on the railroad. He received his call for the ministry and was ordained in 1962. Serving many parishes in California, he retired and held many interim pastoral posts. He mentored 16 interns. In 1983, he received the Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship award and, in 1995, received the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary's Presidents Award of Distinguished Ministry. Gene's down-to-earth sense of humor made people feel at ease. He touched many lives.
Gene is survived by his wife, Judy Jewell; children, Beckie (Mitch) Steller, Cindy (John) Valentin, Eugene Jewell Jr. and Stephanie (Pat) Jewell; stepchildren, Debbie, Jeff, James Allwine and Karen (Gary) Farmer; sister, Esther Georing; his aunt; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Anita Jewell; wife, Joan Jewell; grandparents; and many loved ones.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 26, at 11 a.m. at Faith Episcopal Church, Cameron Park, Calif.
