Thayer, James C. (Jim)
James C. Thayer (Jim), 55, of Iowa City, died at home on Monday, May 17, 2010, from natural causes. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2675 E. Washington St., Iowa City. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church or the World Wildlife Fund.

Jim Thayer was born June 9, 1954, in Iowa City, to Dr. Keith and Mrs. Nancy Thayer. He graduated in 1972 from University High School, the last class to graduate from that institution. He attended classes at Cornell College and the University of Iowa. He worked for 33 years for the Johnson County Sheriff's Department and was recently appointed as the operations manager for the Joint Emergency Communications Center. He received numerous awards for his service to Johnson County and area law enforcement.
He is survived by his parents of Iowa City; his brothers, Gregory (Stefanie) of Rockville, Md., Scott (Nina) of Portland, Ore., and Bradley (Diane) of Iowa City, plus nephew and niece, Zachary and Gina Thayer, respectively.
He is also survived by god son, Vincent Lalla and several cousins.
