Tharp, Netha
Netha Tharp, 98, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave., Vinton, with the Rev. Ronald Sumption officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at the Family Center from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday.
Netha was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Vinton, to William and Eunice (Doty) Tharp. On Oct. 31, 1927, she was united in marriage to Harris “Buster” Tharp in Vinton. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1995, after 68 years and one day of marriage.
Netha was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church in Vinton. She enjoyed crocheting, but her favorite activity was fishing with “Buster” in Wisconsin.
She is survived by her daughters, Rosemaree (Kenneth) Williams of Vinton, Harrisetta Gibbs of Vinton and Bobette (Lyle) Reiss of Southport, N.C.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son; two grandsons, Ricky Lee Williams and Mark Reiss; and her son-in-law, John Gibbs.
A memorial fund has been established.
