Terry Leah (West) Smith, 64, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died at her home on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Terry, under "photos and videos or media," starting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021.
Terry was born Dec. 1, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, to Doris Mae (Oswald) and Marvin "Joe" Russell West Jr. She graduated from Jefferson High School and went on to attend Kirkwood Community College, where she earned her associate's degree in culinary arts. Terry was united in marriage to William "Bill" Henry Smith on July 16, 1988, in Cedar Rapids. She was a dedicated employee of Hy-Vee and loved all of her customers. Terry was a great cook especially her potato salad. She liked to try her luck at lottery scratch-off tickets. Terry was very kindhearted, open-minded, positive and a good listener. She initiated the "Drive Like Your Kids Live Here" sign program in her neighborhood. Terry was an animal lover, especially her dog, Scruffy. She will be missed by those who loved her.
Terry is survived by her husband, Bill Smith, of Cedar Rapids; children, Jason Shook of Marion and Jessica (Beau) Tiernan of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Noah and Makenzie Shook, and Stanley and Charles "Charlie" Tiernan, who lovingly remember their Grandma T; sisters, Carrie Fitkin and Wendy Northcutt, both of Cedar Rapids; brother, Les West of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Doris West; in-laws, Leroy and Annie Smith; and brothers-in-law, Jeff Smith and Don Northcutt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Terry's name may be directed to the family or the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
