Terry L. Walker, 76, of Vinton, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021, at his home. A private family service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Terry Walker, under the video tab starting at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of facemasks or shields is required.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; two daughters, Angela Demoss of Johnston and Allison (Michael) Miner of Van Horne; grandchildren, Shelby (Wayne Snyder) Pitts, Cole (Shelby Pershy) Pitts and Brianna and Kameron Demoss; one great-grandchild, Waylon Snyder; and sisters, Bev Steiner of Marion, Debi (Ed) Lathrop of Cedar Rapids and Nancy Walker of Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Shirley Folken.
Terry was born on Dec, 14, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Hubert and June (Bishop) Walker. He married Doris Miller on April 3, 1967, in Mt. Carroll, Ill. Terry lived his childhood in Springville and attended school there.
He started work in Collins Radio Co. on his 18th birthday and worked there five years. He started out as a key punch operator, went to school for I.B.M. machines and computers for two years. Terry worked his way up to be a document inspector, traveling between five company buildings. At night he milked cows and worked at a gas station, later for the CRANDIC Railroad (switchman /brakeman). He worked nights at Triangle Plastics in Winthrop while starting farming. He farmed for 54 years.
He loved to race cars, go to drag strips, and watch NASCAR. When he could, he worked on Mopar cars. His pride and joy was a 1969 Plymouth Sport Fury.
His family and friends were always a big part of his life and he was known as a big tease.
