Terry, John A.
John A. Terry, 76, of Independence, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at First Baptist Church, Independence, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White Funeral Home, Independence, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. and military service at 8 p.m.
He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Wathen on June 28, 1959, in Independence. She preceded him in death Oct. 29, 1978. He later married Shirley Ann Walton Wilson on Nov. 10, 1983. He became part owner of Bill & Don's Phillips 66 Service Station in Independence in 1973, retiring in 1996. He then worked for United Ag Products in Winthrop until May 2005.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Terry of Independence; son, Michael Terry of Hazleton; daughter, Michelle (Michael) Kehrli of Mount Auburn; two stepdaughters, Valerie Wilson of Houston, Texas and Laurie Wilson of Omaha, Neb.; stepson, Scott Wilson of Houston, Texas; sisters, Jo Ann (Otto “Junior”) Eschen of Independence and Mary (Vernon) Frasher of Robins; and brother, Donald (Mary) Terry of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary; and stepson, Jeff Wilson.
