Terry William Helgeson, 56, of Toddville, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, located at 1350 Lyndhurst Dr., Hiawatha. Burial will be in St. Benedict's Catholic Cemetery in Decorah at 2:30 p.m. Following the burial, there will be "Beers and Cheers" at Toppling Goliath Brewery, located at 1600 Prosperity Rd., Decorah.
Terry was born July 3, 1965, in Decorah, the son of Dick and Jan (Keck) Helgeson. He graduated from Decorah High School, Class of 1983. He attended the University of Iowa, before starting his career in the automotive industry. He worked in the Automotive Industry for 37 years and had been a valued employee of Cedar Rapids Toyota since 2006. Over the years, he developed many long-lasting friendships with his clients and co-workers. Terry was united in marriage to Carrie Marie Kuhns on June 18, 2006, at Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville and, in December 2021, they received he sacrament of marriage in the Catholic church. He was an avid outdoorsman and Hawkeye fan. He also had a passion for golfing, watching sports, playing in a men's basketball league, and most of all liked spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Finn.
Terry is survived by his wife, Carrie: children, Peyton Helgeson, August "A.J." Helgeson, Brice Helgeson, Emma Helgeson and Grace Helgeson; his mother, Jan Helgeson; his siblings, Tim (Cami) Helgeson, Todd (Misty) Helgeson and Traci Schmitz (Mike Wilkey); his mother and father-in-law, Tim and Patricia Kuhns; brother-in-law, Kyle (Lan) Kuhns; as well as his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dick; and infant twin daughters, Kaylyn and Kelsey Helgeson; sister-in-law, Lisa Helgeson; his maternal grandparents, Wesley and Odella Keck; and paternal grandparents, Elmer and Mary Helgeson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
