TERRIL "TERRY" GREEN
Guttenberg
Terril "Terry" Lee Green, 67, of Guttenberg, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, in Guttenberg.
He was born March 5, 1948, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Burl and Coleen (Rowland) Green. Terry grew up in the Cherokee area on the family farm and graduated from Meriden-Cleghorn community schools. Terry furthered his education, receiving his bachelor's degree and later his master's degrees from Buena Vista College, University of Iowa and Clarke College. On Nov. 22, 1972, Terry was united in marriage with Jean Marie Berns at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg. The couple were later blessed with two children, Aaron and Sarah.
Terry never wavered as a lifetime member of the Church of the Open Prairie.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, boater, reloader, carpenter, gardener, cook, mentor to many and all around helper to anyone who asked. Always enthusiastic to travel to new and old stomping grounds – anywhere that involved scenery, the outdoors and especially out West.
Terry was a man who wore many hats, including stints as a cowboy/ranch hand in Wyoming, a butcher, electrician, contractor, EMT and rural mail carrier. Along the way, he put in 30 years teaching science and special education in Guttenberg, Oelwein and Postville and then back to the Gutten-berg and Clayton Ridge schools. In his later years, he was a professional B.S. artist at various convenience stores in town with his coffee crew.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; two children, Aaron (Kim) Green and Sarah (Josh) Urmanski; three grandchildren, Abigail and Gunner Green and Sawyer Urmanski; siblings, Morris (Clarice) Green, Sue (Bob) Stuhr and Annette (Jeff) Raver; sister-in-law, Joyce Hyde; and many other relatives and friends.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis Green; sister, Linda Green; mother-in-law, Jeanette Berns; two brothers-in-law, Bill Berns and Bob Hyde; and one nephew, Eric Green.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30. Dinner will follow at the Stadium Bar & Grill from 4 to 6 p.m.
