On Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, Terry Christian Schamberger, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away. He was 78 years old. Born to Christian and Louise Schamberger, Terry graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in fine arts and a master's degree in educational administration. His love for the Hawkeyes was with him his entire life. It was at the University of Iowa that Terry met the love of his life, Virginia (Ginger) Schamberger, on an outing with friends. That outing brought two soulmates together and grew into 56 years of marriage full of love and companionship.
After college, Terry moved to Florida and embarked on a career in education, where he progressed from classroom teaching to an administrative position within the Sarasota County School Board. His career was spent serving the students and community of Sarasota County. Terry's retirement years saw him enjoy many different activities, including spending time with Ginger and going to see his grandchildren participate in sports, dance, music and other activities. An avid golfer, Terry loved his time each week on the golf course and even recorded two hole-in-ones at Big Canoe in Jasper, Ga.
Terry is survived by his wife, Ginger; his sister, Wendy; his sons, Peter (Whitney), Michael (Aya) and Matthew (Abby); and his six grandchildren, Evan, Ryan, Max, Honoka, Haruka and McKinley.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Darby Funeral Home, 480 East Main St., Canton, GA 30114; with a short visitation beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead make a donation to The American Kidney Fund.
