Terrance “Terry” R. Mackey, 75, of Ely, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026. Memorial Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2026 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW in Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service on Friday. At the request of the family, please dress casually in your favorite sports team or hunting attire to honor Terry’s memory.
Terry was born August 21, 1950 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert Raymond and Lois Mae (Miller) Mackey. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1968. He married Janet Kay Heman on May 6, 1972 in Cedar Rapids at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. He spent the majority of his life as a plumber/pipefitter with the UA Local 125. He liked watching his favorite teams that included the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals. Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing and driving gravel roads looking for wildlife. Some of his most memorable times were spent hunting in Decorah with friends and family for 50 + years. His most cherished moments were spent with his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Terry will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jan; children Jenny Mackey and Jeff (Heather) Mackey; grandchildren Jayden Mackey (fiancé Brad Chihak), Spencer and Taylor Mackey; great granddaughter Meadow Chihak (and a great grandson on the way); sister Janice (Mark) Heathman; aunt Barbara Mackey; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, infant brother Gary Mackey, sister Kathy Osborn, brother Kevin Mackey and Uncle Richard Mackey.
Memorials may be directed to the Ely Fire Department in Terry’s memory.
