Teresa Ann Martinek, 48, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 19, 2016. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a vigil service will begin at 3:45 p.m. Memorial Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Father Philip Thompson. Inurnment: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her mother, Joyce; her siblings, John (Kelly) Martinek, Timothy (Roxann) Martinek and Jason (Sandra) Martinek; her niece and nephews, Joey, Calla and Nathaniel Martinek; and her aunts and uncles, Eleanor (Robert) Hill Sr., Ann Martinek (Florence), Mildred (George) Jacoby, Mark (Mary Lou) Martinek, Julius (Jeannie) Martinek, Daniel (Susan) Martinek, Janet (Barry) Smith and Barbara (William) Burns.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, James; and aunts and uncles, Valerian Martinek, James Martinek, Lillian Kruger and Eileen McCallen.
Teresa was born Sept. 21, 1967, the daughter of James and Joyce (McVay) Martinek in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Washington High School and Iowa State University. Teresa worked most recently at Michael's in Cedar Rapids and previously worked at Mangelsen's in Omaha as a fabric specialist. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Teresa loved to quilt; she designed and wrote quilt patterns and gave hand-made quilts to family and friends to mark special occasions. She enjoyed biking with her father and would be seen riding the trails with him.
Teresa will be remembered for her great smile and infectious laugh. She cherished her niece and nephews. Teresa will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
