TERESA "TERI" FAULKNER

Teresa "Teri" J. Faulkner, 64, of Onalaska, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at her home after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on July 3, 1951, to Maxwell and Beverly (Braack) Mabie. She grew up in several small rural communities, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. She was one of the first students to graduate with a degree in junior high education and English. She taught high school, middle school language arts and speech classes in Olin and Tipton from 1973 to 1983.
Teri earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa, graduating in 1989 with degrees in English education, writing and reading. She taught at Western Illinois University in Macomb for two years, then at the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse as a tenured associate professor until 1999. From 1999 on she then served as middle school reading specialist and district reading specialist in the school district of Onalaska until her retirement in 2012.
Teri is survived by her sisters, Toni (Dale) Tilkes of Waterloo and Caprisa Mabie of Marion. She also is survived by her husband, David; and three daughters, Jaime (Aaron) Bounds of Prior Lake, Minn., Jennie (Brooks) Simning of St. Paul, Minn., and Julie Faulkner of Baton Rouge, La. She has three much-loved grandchildren, Makenzie Bounds and Kellen and Kai Simning.
Her parents preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday,
Feb. 4, at Onalaska United Methodist Church, 212 Fourth Ave. Pastor Park Hunter will officiate. Family and friends may call at the church from
10 a.m. until time of service.
The Dickinson Family Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
