Funeral services for Dean A. Tenley, 78, of Stanwood, who died at home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, will be held Saturday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Stanwood Union Church, by Pastor Phil Leipold.Visitation will be held Friday, July 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will be in the Stanwood Cemetery, with full military honors. Casket bearers are Mike Dauber, Wade Engelkens, Gordon Farrington, Dustin Koberle, Tim Kuenzel, Garret Dean Moenk, Danny Wagner and Wendell Wanek. Honorary casket bearers will be Dale Tenley, Roger Tenley, John Tenley, John Koberle, Garret Moenk, Tom Weiland, Richard Meyer and Paul Feuss.
Dean was born Nov. 18, 1933, at the Anamosa Mercy Hospital to Howard and Mildred (Horne) Tenley.He was a graduate of Stanwood High School.Dean served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. On June 1, 1957, Dean was united in marriage to Norma Jane Lyon at Stanwood Methodist Church.After her death he married Doris Janet Lyon on Aug. 18, 1965, in Rock Island, Ill.
Dean was a lifetime farmer. He also worked at Wilson's, Jack's Feed and Grain and Purethane.In 1995, he retired and moved to town, where he liked mowing yards and loved talking to people.Dean enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and trapping.He was a member of the Stanwood Union Church, Izaak Walton League, Cedar County Sportsman Club and the Stanwood Cemetery board.
Dean is loved and survived by his wife, Doris Janet Tenley; daughters, Dee Ann (John) Koberle of Stanwood, Donna (Garret) Moenk of Monticello, Diane (Paul) Feuss of Clarence, Deborah (Richard) Meyer of Mechanicsville and Denise (Wade) Engelkens of Stanwood; son, David (Ginger) Tenley of Stanwood; 16 grandchildren;four great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Wagner of Stanwood, Mary (Jim) Clark of Tipton, Linda Walshire of Topeka, Kan., Wanda (Gordon) Farrington of Mechanicsville and Martha Becker of Tipton; and brothers, Richard Tenley of Mechanicsville, Roger Tenley of Stanwood, Dale (Donna) Tenley of Toronto and John (Karen) Tenley of Stanwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Norma; brother, Steve; sister, Della; and grandson-in-law, Troy Brown.
