Ted J. Wallerich, 73, of Keota, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at his home.
Ted was born Nov. 19, 1941, in Keota, to Homer and Irene (Dumont) Wallerich, and graduated from Keota High School in 1959. He served in the Army Reserves and worked as a mechanic for Gordy Pearson, carpenter for Jim Henderson and machinist at Ray-Man. Ted was a self-taught wood and metal worker who enjoyed fishing, hunting and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include nine siblings, Russell Wallerich of Green River, Wyo., Keith (Jeanne) Wallerich of Keota, Jeanine (Harold) Hall of Ames, Melvin (Barbara) Wallerich of Burlington, Rita Harnish of Cedar Rapids, Barbara (Donald "Dutch") Soutter of Mitchellville, Susie (Dick) Sheaffer of Des Moines, Ron (Annette) Wallerich of Fairfax and Linda (Mike) Forret of Adel; brother-in-law, Harold Peiffer of Des Moines; 43 nieces and nephews; 72 great-nieces and nephews; 15 great-great-nieces and nephews; four stepnieces and nephews; 24 step-great-nieces and nephews; seven step-great-great nieces and nephews; and special friend for 30 years, Mary Beth Criss.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rose Marie Peiffer; and brother, Charles Wallerich.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries, St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota.
A general memorial fund has been established.
