Taylor, Donald Alan
Donald Alan Taylor, 80, passed away Thursday, July, 30, 2009, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner. Services: 11 a.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sumner. Burial: Lutheran Cemetery, Sumner Township, Sumner. S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in Sumner is in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 20, 1929, in Milledgeville, Ill., the son of Glenn and Ila (Lenhart) Taylor, and attended school at Milledgeville High School. On Oct. 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Leila Bock in Sumner.
Don served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. Later, he was employed by Paul Niemann Construction in Sumner as a rock quarry manager. Don was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served two terms as treasurer. During his free time, he enjoyed playing cards with the card club, bowling and spending time watching and feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard.
He is survived by his wife, Leila; two sons, Alan (Cyndee) of Independence and Curt (Annette) of Lisbon; two grandchildren, Kyle (Ashley) of Cedar Fall and Ted of Iowa City; and a sister, Lois Ann Ritenour of Galesburg, Ill.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather, Robert Eastabrook.
