Tanner, Susan
Susan Tanner left her friends and family on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012. After years of battling with health problems, the Lord decided it was time to ease her pain and allow her to move on.
Susan was born to Ralph and Verda Lloyd on Sept. 9, 1949; she grew up in Glidden, Iowa. For most of her childhood, she was the youngest of three. Her older sister, Linda (Winston), and brother, Gary (Diane), paved the way for her until her parents surprised her while she was in high school with the announcement she would have a baby brother, Mike (Crystal).
After high school, Susan moved to the big city of Des Moines, where she met her future husband (Mike Tanner). They married Dec. 21, 1968, and were blessed with three wonderful sons: Mathew (Teresa), and their sons, Ethan and Derek; Christopher (Carmen), their daughters, Cristin, Maegan, Rylee, Ashlenn and Samantha, and granddaughter, Annison; and Jeff (Allyson).
Susan worked in retail (Ardan's, Landmark Luggage, Rogers Jewelry and Kay's Jewelry), but found her real niche working as a hostess at Cedar Memorial. She thoroughly enjoyed helping people as they dealt with the loss of their loved ones. Ironic, as we need her now for the very same thing.
As with all families, there have been bumps in the road of life, but no one can dispute that once Susan welcomed you into her heart, you were always going to be there. No matter what happened, she would support you and once you were family, you were always family. She is missed already and will never be forgotten.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God Church.
