Takes, Edna M.
Edna M. Takes, 98, of Urbana, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Urbana with Father Ardel Barta as celebrant. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, near Urbana.
Edna was born Sept. 30, 1915, near Urbana, to Herman and Mary (Kleitsch) Zieser. She was united in marriage on Jan. 18, 1938, to Nick Takes at Spencer's Grove, he preceded her in death in 1961.
Edna was a homemaker, worked at the 150 Gulf Stop in Center Point and at her brother's bar, Zieser's Tap, in Urbana. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar & Rosary Society in Urbana.
In her leisure, Edna enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports/band, playing cards, BINGO, visiting casinos, embroidery, quilting and making homemade bread and noodles.
Survivors include her three children, Grant Takes of Walker, Bev (Gary) Kisling of Center Point and Linda Koehler of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Jim and John Takes, Annette Allbee, Diana Croghan, Kevin Kisling, Darin Koehler, Joey Koehler and Brenda Newmister; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Hosch and Dora Mae Coleman; three brothers, Clifford Zieser, Carl Zieser and Bob Zieser; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by her son-in-law, George Koehler; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Takes; brother, Donald Zieser; and sister, Eleanor Hosch.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff and nurses at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center and Hospice of Mercy for the loving care Edna received.
A memorial fund has been established.
