Sylvia Rochelle Williams, 59, died on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be from 4 to
7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Homegoing services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at New City Church, located at 5335 Midway Dr., NW. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids.
Sylvia was born July 24, 1962, in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Eddie L. Smith Sr. and Josie Williams. She graduated from Washington High School. Following she earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Mt. Mercy University. Sylvia worked at Crest Services, REM of Iowa, Systems Unlimited and Kirkwood Resource Services as a social worker. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, hanging out with her sister and best friends, painting butterflies, helping others and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially the 10 grandchildren.
Sylvia is survived by her children, Lakeshia (Tom) Hayward, Jereme Williams and Chrishun Williams; 10 grandchildren, Tre, Rhianna, Morris Jr., Jontay, Kiarra, Taytum, Keanna, Haley, Teagan and Jayla; one great-grandson, Jo'Vonni; her father, Eddie Smith Sr.; her mother, Josie (Mack Davis Sr.) Williams; her siblings, Robert Ivory, Yolanda Ivory and Mack Davis Jr.; as well as host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and her long time partner, Jerry Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Smith Jr.; her grandmother, Bertha Slayton; special aunt, Gail Slayton; her former husband, Jerome Culp; as well as her aunts and uncles.
Sylvia was a bright light kind and full of life. She will be missed by all.
