Sylvia M. Wilford, two days away from being 101, passed away peacefully in Surprise, Ariz. A visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Sylvia was born Nov. 11, 1921, near Sydney, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Pauline Pokorney. She attended Wilson High School and married Charles Wilford on Nov. 6, 1944, in Melbourne, Florida, where they resided while Charles served in the Navy. He enlisted in 1940 and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. After they returned to Cedar Rapids, she worked for Rockwell Collins and retired after 27 years in 1982.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; sister, Blanche Ricker; and brothers, Joe, Stanley and Frank Pokorney. She is survived by her nieces and nephews.
