Sweeting, Dale L.
Dale L. Sweeting, 54, of Iowa City, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.
Dale Lee Sweeting was born Sept. 18, 1956, in Iowa City. He attended schools in Iowa City, graduating from West High School in 1975, and then from Kirkwood Community College. For many years Dale worked in auto parts companies in the area.
He loved the game of baseball as a coach and umpire in the Babe Ruth program in Lone Tree. He was a member of the Iowa City Umpire Association. Dale was very dedicated to the Boy Scouts both as a scout master and former scout. He worked with the Jaycees to give back to the community through building projects or food drives.
His family includes two children, Brett Sweeting and his wife, JoAnn, of Ainsworth and Keri Sweeting of Coralville; parents, Roger and Joyce Sweeting of Iowa City; brother, Ric Sweeting and his wife, Janet Lee Stewart Sweeting, of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Noah, Emily and Aubrey; and niece, Devon Lee Stewart Sweeting.
A memorial fund has been established in Dale's memory.
