Sweet, Kenneth 'Kenny'
Kenneth “Kenny” Sweet, 68, of rural Ryan, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, after being hit by a train near Ryan.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Schluter–Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa. by Rev. David Lenth. Visitation was Sunday, August 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be another service noon Sunday at Wakema Park in Center Point, Iowa.
Kenneth Elmer Sweet was born June 18, 1942, to Elmer and Lois (Love) Sweet at Waukon, Iowa. Kenny attended Allamakee County schools. He was married to Elaine (Brandt) Sweet and Doris (Engen) Sweet and married Georgia (Howard) Sweet April 6, 1991. Kenny liked to care for his birds, dogs, donkeys and to work with horses. Kenny was always willing to help anybody with anything. He also liked to listen to his brothers' country music and had a good sense of humor. Kenny especially enjoyed his family. He hauled livestock for area farmers with his blue stock truck. He also worked at Carlson's in Decorah, Iowa, for many years and for L.L. Pelling in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and he really enjoyed these jobs. Everyone recognized Kenny in his blue truck and then his black truck.
Kenny's survivors include his wife, Georgia Sweet, of Ryan, Iowa; children, Karla (Jared) Kelly of Ossian, Iowa and Matt Sweet of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Brody, Kylie and Kenzi; stepchildren, Dennis (Tina) Quam of Decorah, Iowa, Terry (Lillian) Quam of Decorah, IA, Christy (Richard) Klimesh of Spillville, Iowa, Deb (Ron) Drexler of Coggon, Iowa, Bill Ford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Pat (Charlie) Ratliff of Central City, Iowa, Jim Ford of Marengo, Iowa, Carl Duke of Dysart, Iowa, Linda (Mike) Devries of Independence, Iowa, and Pam Ford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; stepgrandchildren, Dean, Cody, Wyomi, Waukima, BJ, Wade, Josh, Casey, CJ, Austin, Shanell, David, Kaley, Andy, Lynsey and Clark; step-great-grandchildren, Derek, Alex, Emma, Aaron, Vincent, Tahya, Jayde, Kyler, Kaleb, Aubrey, Addyson, Kylie, Spencer and Ariana; second father, Lester Engen of Decorah, Iowa; brother, Keith “Lil Dale” (Crystal) Sweet of Luana, Iowa; sister, Chae (Dave) Juve of Valley Center, Calif.; uncle, Dale (Jane) Sweet of Giard, Iowa.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lois; a sister, Jean Halverson; and second mother, Helen Engen.
