Sweet, Hollis K.
Hollis K. Sweet, 96, formerly of Central City, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Summit Pointe in Marion. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Jack H. (Marsha) Sweet of Central City, Linda Rocke of Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Robert Sweet of Marion, Dudley R. (Janet) Sweet of Loveland, Colo. and Steven Sweet of Bothell, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie O'Meara of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Hollis was born December 19, 1913 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Edward W. and Grace R. (Ball) White. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Sweet on March 20, 1938, in Kahoka, Mo. Robert passed away in 1973. Hollis was active in the management of Sweet Door Company with her husband, Robert, and later with her son, Robert, Jr. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Central City where she was active with Women's Fellowship Group. She was also a member of the Central City Historical Society. Hollis enjoyed travel and visited many different countries and continents. Hollis enjoyed gardening and bicycling. She drew great pleasure from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and friends.
