Swartzendruber, Constance Joan (Emerson)
Constance Joan (Emerson) Swartzendruber, 67, of Atkins, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 17, 2011, at Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Don; children, Melissa Emerson of Atkins and Mitch Emerson of Iowa City; stepchildren, Roger (Tammy) Swartzendruber of St. Louis, Mo., and Lore (Shanna) Swartzendruber of Atkins; brother, Gary (Carolyn) McNee of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Loralea Frances of Wichita, Kan., and Kara (John) Brockschink of Lamont; stepmother, Marjorie McNee of Cedar Rapids; two stepgrandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, John Randolph Emerson.
Connie was born July 27, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Robert N. and Mildred L. (Crowe) McNee. She was united in marriage to John Randolph Emerson on June 18, 1966, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was a second grade teacher in the Benton Community School District, where she was loved by many of her students whom she enjoyed teaching. She married Don Swartzendruber on March 27, 2004, in Iowa City.
She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. She enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises. She also enjoyed time spent with her family and will be greatly missed by her dear friend and pet, Molly.
A memorial fund has been established in Connie's honor.
