Susan M. Primrose Volz, 86, of Norway, passed away July 11, 2017, following complications from surgery.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 14, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway with the Most Rev. Thomas Zinkula, Bishop of Davenport; Father Craig Steimel; and Father Dustin L. Vu officiating. Burial will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery, Norway. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at St. Michael's Parish Community Center, with a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

Susan Marie Primrose was born Dec. 27, 1930, in Norway, the daughter of Lloyd and Esther Trojovsky Primrose. She graduated from St. Michael's grade school, then attended and graduated from Norway High School, Class of 1948. Following her graduation, she was employed by Welch Cook Bails in Cedar Rapids.
She also was a member of St. Mary's Court Women's Catholic Order of Foresters and American Legion Auxiliary in Norway.
On Sept. 8, 1949, she and David C. Volz were united in marriage at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway. They lived on and operated the family farm west of Norway until 1996, when they retired and moved to their new home in Norway. They were the parents of seven children.
Susan is survived by three daughters and three sons and their spouses, Linda (John E.) Frese of Amana, Dee (Peter) Vesanovic of Los Altos, Calif., Gary (Lori) Volz of Amana, Debra (Jerry) Kiwala of Cedar Rapids, Bruce (Cherie) Volz of Norway and Keith (Kay) Volz of Cedar Rapids; 19 grandchildren, Chris (Danielle) Frese, Brian Frese, Nathan (Niki) Frese, Ashlee (Nic) Bennett, Cameron Frese, Sarita Turley, Liz Vesanovic (Christian Rodriguez), Nikki Vesanovic (Matt Wycoff), Monica Vesanovic, Shane (Sara) Volz, Jodi (Denny) Ballard, Heidi Hollenbeck, Brock (Eva) Schulte, Adam (Stacy) Schulte, Josie Schmuecker, Jacob, Sidney, Larissa and Kaedon Volz; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Connor, Skylar, Easton and Libi Frese, Selah, Canaan and Isabella Frese, Maddux, Micah and Halle Frese, Ryker, Greyson and Harlyn Bennett, Ashley, Joshua, Jacob and Tristan Turley, Booker, Wade and Cruz Rodriguez, Sadie Susan, Millie and Kirby Wycoff, Mitchell and Trevor Volz, Nolan, Brayden, Aubrey and Gianna Ballard, Malea Hollenbeck, Nicha Schulte, Tyson, Avery and Reagan Schulte; one brother, Harold "Pinky" (Flo) Primrose; one sister, Gayle Holt; sisters-in-law, Arlene Primrose, Alberta Volz and Mary Zinkula; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Esther Primrose; husband, David, on Aug. 30, 2002; daughter, Connie Marie, in 1963; great-grandson, Lincoln Schulte; brother, Maj. Robert L. Primrose; in-laws, Frank and Kathryn Volz; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Clem and Lorene Oberreuter, Vernon and Lynn Volz, Clarence Volz, Leonard and Hazel Stallman, Wilbert and Romana Volz, Loretta Schmidt and Bob Zinkula.
Her greatest joy and most important in her life was her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting and crafts. Many of these items she made for her large family. She made silk flowers for weddings and other occasions for a number of years.
Her family always came first, and she attended as many activities as possible until health issues forced her to miss them.
The family would like to thank all of her doctors, the staff at Mercy Medical Center and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for taking such good care of our mother.
She will be greatly missed.
