Susan “Sue” Marie Bullinga, 68, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021, at her home in Marion. Family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 10, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Jim Langley. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
Sue was born May 6, 1952, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Erwin and Ella (Podhaski) Darby. She graduated from Jesup High School and went on to attend St. Luke’s School of Nursing, where she became a licensed practical nurse. On May 22, 1976, Sue was united in marriage to Thomas Lothar Bullinga in Jesup, Iowa. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, where she was active in various circles and volunteered at the Churches of Marion Food Pantry until recent years. Sue was a caregiver all of her life as a homemaker, nurse and friend. She was an avid reader, and loved to garden and feed the birds. Sue was very family oriented and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sue is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 45 years, Thomas Bullinga of Marion; four children, Heidi (Robert Feldstein) Bullinga of Seattle, Wash., John Bullinga of Philadelphia, Pa., Julie (Jarrod) Schafer of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Linda Bullinga of Eagan, Minn.; four grandchildren, Sierra, Soren, Michael and Elsa; two brothers, Russell (Julia) Darby of Jesup, Iowa, and Kenneth (Billie) Darby of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Darby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sue’s memory may be made to the Churches of Marion Food Pantry, 802 12th St., Marion, IA 52302.
