Susan Schumacher Rollins passed away Jan. 23, 2019, in Oxford, Ohio, at 95 years old.
She was an alumnus of Bexley High School, 1942; Smith College, 1946; and earned a master's degree in microbiology from Ohio State University, 1948. She did research with Dr. Albert Sabin (developer of the oral polio vaccine) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and worked in the University of Iowa Microbiology and Pathology laboratories.
She loved chocolate Dove bars, knowledge, and her family more than anything else. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, to Marguerite and Ray Schumacher on Dec. 2, 1923, and had a younger brother, Bud Schumacher. She married Robert Rollins in 1949 and had three children who grew up in Iowa City, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three nephews and two nieces.
There will be a family graveside service this summer in Iowa City. To celebrate our mother's life today, tell your family how much you love them, have some chocolate or share an interesting article with a friend.
