Susan L. Miller, 88, of Manchester, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Funeral service: 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at First Lutheran Church, Manchester, with visitation one hour prior. Private
family burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Susan was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Otis and Amber Miller, and then adopted by Louis and Elma (Taylor) Ryan. On May 25, 1949, she married Wayne A. Miller at Green Island Congregational Church. Susan taught in rural Jackson County and the McGee Brick School house in Delaware County, farmed with her husband, was a teacher's aide at Lambert, then served as a substitute teacher until she was 80.
Susan was a member of First Lutheran Church, Manchester. She served on the McGee Brick School Preservation Foundation and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, was a great cook and was active in her church.
She loved family gatherings and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Jane (Dennis) Cook of Rockton, Ill.; sons, Douglas Miller and Matthew Miller of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Chad (Abbie) Cook, Angela (Richard) Rupp, Chris (Joe) Weber, Tim Miller, Rebecca Miller, Rachael Miller and Ryan Miller; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Harlan and Adriana Rupp, Cameron Cook, Max, Casey and Jaxson Weber; and a brother, John (Joyce) Hedges, Burlington.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne, in 1998; and nine brothers and sisters.
