J. Susan Matteson, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the funeral home.
The family requests casual dress and be comfortable like Susan would want you to be. Burial will follow at Campbell Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Susan was born July 16, 1949, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Glenna (Babcock) Blair. On Oct. 8, 1965, she was united in marriage to Charles Matteson in Jefferson City, Mo. Susan worked in housekeeping at St. Luke's Hospital and then in customer service at Casey's General Store until her retirement in 2019. She enjoyed going to the casino and going shopping. Susan loved scratch tickets, her cats and meeting new people; everyone she met was her friend.
Survivors include her children, Ken (Aubreya) Matteson of Newhall, Iowa, and Stephanie Matteson of Minneapolis, Minn.; stepchildren, Joan Schofield of Albuquerque, N.M., Charlene Frey of Cedar Rapids and Kevin (Dewi) Matteson of Pilot Grove, Mo.; grandchildren, Blair and Brandon Yancey, Natalie and Maleah Matteson, Kevin and Garrett Frey, Kate and Sarah Schofield and Blake and Michael Matteson; great-grandchild, Wyatt Yancey; and siblings, Priscilla (Mike) Roseberry of Central City, Iowa, Mary (Jim) Carney of Denver, Colo., Glennis Hald of Cedar Rapids, Rebecca Blair of Tacoma, Wash., and Beth Ann Black of Manville, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Glenna Blair; and husband, Charles Matteson.
