Susan M. (Westemeier) Hendricks, 79, died peacefully on February 25th surrounded by family at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Sue was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on July 22, 1945, to Lawrence and Viola (Schnieders) Westemeier. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1964 and got a job in Cedar Rapids at Collins Radio, retiring in 2001 after 37 years of service.
September 2, 1967, she married the love of her life, Clyde W. Hendricks, Jr. Sue’s best moments were those spent with family and friends; quilting, Wednesday lunches, playing pinochle, reading, and peanut M & Ms. Sue spoke her mind without reservation and was always the life of the party.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde; her daughters, Heidi (Steve) Keehner of Marion and Amy (Brian) Becker of Cedar Falls; her grandchildren, Jacob Keehner, Isaac Keehner, Daphne Becker, and Lily Becker; brother, Gene (Joan) Westemeier; and sisters-in-law, Mary Westemeier, Mary Kay Westemeier and brother-in-law, Leon (Barb) Hendricks.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; Lou Ann (Dale) Sheffler, Verna (Howard) Coffin, Dorthy Fecht, Helen (Bob) Lamos, and Mary Jo (Dick) Schneiders; and five brothers, Bill (Rhonda) Westemeier, Jim (Doris) Westemeier, Don Westemeier, LeRoy (Norma) Westemeier, and Tom Westemeier.
The family would like to thank Nancy Dean, Stephanie Thein, and Orville Thein for their support and friendship through this difficult time.
We would also like to thank the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Nurse Linda was so wonderful, helping Sue pass with peace and dignity.
In lieu of flowers please support Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids.
The family will have a private burial service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under Obituaries.
