Susan Jean Kohler, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 9, 2015, at her residence. An informal gathering of remembrance will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Susan was born Nov. 21, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, to James and Lucile (Hargitt) Kohler Sr. She received her bachelor's degree from Coe College and worked as a systems engineer for IBM and later as an IT con-sultant for St. Luke's Hospital.
As a female systems engineer in 1966, she was a feminist in behavior, not in verbiage. Her epitaph could be "I did it my way." She was brilliant without knowing it, funny, generous and compassionate.
Susan is survived by her brother, Mike Kohler of Portland, Ore.; niece, Kim Peach of New Hampshire; five great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as her schnauzers, Miller and Charlie, who were her children.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Phillip Kohler and James Kohler Jr.; and her niece, Lynn Gibson.
