SUSAN DENISE ANKROM
Masonville
Susan Denise Ankrom, 51, of Urbandale, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at her parents' home in Masonville.
She was born Dec. 13, 1966, in Jacksonville, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Carol (Fortado) Ankrom. When she was 15 months old, her family moved to the Manchester area, where she attended and graduated from West Delaware High School in Manchester. She went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Sue coached girls' basketball and softball at West Delaware High School for several years and taught at Cedar Valley Christian High School before moving to the Des Moines area to teach and coach at Des Moines Christian School. She was a fan of women's basketball, especially Tennessee, as well as Duke men's basketball. She served as an AWANA leader, a Youth for Christ Lug leader and the leader of His Handiwork Puppet Ministry.
Sue would want you to know these four things: Her passion and love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her hope that all would know of His saving grace; her undying love for her "kids," those nieces and nephews she lived for; the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, so others might be diagnosed earlier and beat this enemy; and thanks for all the prayers and visits from family and friends these past five years as she fought this disease.
Sue is survived by her parents, Charles and Carol Ankrom of Masonville; her siblings, Rodney (Michelle) Ankrom of Rhinelander, Wis., Michael Ankrom of Fulton, Ill., and Michele (Jeff) Harris of Manchester; her "kids" (nieces and nephews), Caleb, Megan and Noah, Jonathan, Joel, Jennifer, Nathan, Jarod and Victoria; and BoBo, her cat.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship will be established in Sue's name for a West Delaware High School student.
