Sullivan 'Cutie Schneider, ' Betty Ann
Betty Ann Sullivan “Cutie Schneider,” 78, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in her home after a long illness, surrounded by her family. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Betty was a graduate of Brighton High School, where she was valedictorian. She went to work as a legal secretary, working at Lynch, Dallas, Smith, and Harman for more than 40 years, and was also employed by the Cedar Rapids Gazette for more than 25 years.
Betty enjoyed collecting Betty Boop items as her “namesake.” She enjoyed music, doing puzzles, playing cards, bowling, going to the casino, “game day” with family, camping, playing golf and softball, she was an avid sports fan, and even enjoyed preparing income tax returns. She traveled a great deal after her retirement, including a cruise across the Atlantic Ocean. Her most precious moments were spent with her family and friends, building the memories of a lifetime, especially when Joni and her family were able to be a part of family celebrations.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Sheri (Randy) Gilds of Anamosa, Joni (Steve) Hoffman of Minnesota and Pam Jensen (Bruce) of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Patiance (Rob), Amy (Kyle), Dustin (Sheri), John Matthew, Christian, Jared, Nathan and Nikki (Robert); her great-grandchildren, Addalyn, Evan, Adyn and Nael; brothers, Walter J. (Helen) Schneider of Mount Pleasant and Gary (Ellen) Greene of Eddyville, “soul sister,” Sheryl Porter of Arlington; good friend, Mary Ann Dvorak of Fairfax; and many other friends and family, including Derek Jensen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Ann (Grotts) Greene, A.B. Greene and Walter A. Schneider; a great-grandchild, Adler Goldsberry, who is an identical twin to Evan; her husband, Jim Sullivan; and dear friends, Fran Dochterman, Linda Solem and Peggy Siemer.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Hospice of Mercy and all the love and support they have provided for almost one year. It was their support as well as the support of her granddaughter, Patiance (Rob); daughters, Sheri and Pam; and her sister, Sheryl, who made it possible for her to live out her life in her home of more than 50 years.
A memorial fund has been established in honor and memory of Betty.
