SueEllen Louise Perkins, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a courageous battle with sarcoma since November
2015. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Tim Pridegon. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
SueEllen is survived by her children, Jonathan (Chavela) Perkins, Ericka (Mike) Maynard and Gary (Tracy) Perkins, all of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Alicia, Brittany, Taylor, Jena, Chance, Jacob, Jonathan, Jameson, Clay, Hunter and Connor; great-grandchildren, Hazelynn, Lillian and Lucas; sisters, Colleen "Cookie," Diane, Sandra, Julie, Teresa and Susan; and brothers, Jerry and David.
She was preceded in death by her best friend and former husband, Gerald "Jake" Perkins in 2015; daughter, Joann Barber; sisters, Judy, Margaret "Pug" and Lynice "Nick"; brother, Michael; and parents, Margaret and David Perkins.
SueEllen was born on March 11, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. She married Gerald "Jake" Perkins in March 1973. SueEllen was a senior industrial engineer technician for Rockwell Collins for 44 years, retiring in 2017.
SueEllen was committed to her job and was a hard worker. She was a very creative artist and enjoyed painting and working with stained glass. SueEllen was a beautiful soul, the definition of class and integrity, and had a gift to inspire all who knew her. She was a "stellar human" and loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. SueEllen will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Cancer Center, especially Dr. "Mo" Milhem, Hollie, Alisha and Deb, Dr. Miller and Jill, Dr. Anderson, Dr. Aburizik and Dr. Melanie Stahlberg, Mercy Hospice Care Team and the Hospice House of Mercy.
