Sue A. (Lundquist) Baker, 65, died Thursday, Dec. 20, at UIHC following a sudden heart attack.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Parkview Church, 15 Foster Rd., Iowa City, with the Rev. Steve Rachke officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Parkview Church, followed by a time of fellowship. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Parkview Church or the Sue Baker Memorial Fund.
Sue was born April 24, 1953, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Delton and Marilyn (Laue) Lundquist. Sue was raised on a farm southeast of Paullina, Iowa, and attended Paullina Community Schools, graduating in 1971. She received her nursing degree in 1973 from the University of South Dakota.
On July 31, 1976, Sue was united in marriage to Stephen Baker at the Oakdale Free Church in Meriden, Iowa.
Sue was employed at Mercy Iowa City more than 40 years, where she was a nurse in obstetrics for many years and helped deliver hundreds of babies.
Sue accepted the invitation of Jesus to be her savior at an early age and particularly felt his guidiance in her retirement years. She was a member of Parkview Church, where she enjoyed her weekly Bible studies and coffee time with her many friends. Sue was a lifelong avid reader and puzzler. She and Steve loved to travel and had taken several trips to foreign countries.
Survivors include her loving husband, Steve, and their children, Amy (Rick) Svendsen of Rochester, Minn., and Mark Baker of Denver, Colo.; two grandsons, Parker and Carter Svendsen; her mother, Marilyn Lundquist; and her brother, Kent (Laura) Lundquist, both of Paullina; her in-laws, Foster and Betty Baker of Iowa City; and extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Delton, in 2002; and her grandparents.
