Sue Hollenbeck, 71, died Monday, March 5, 2018, as the result of a farm accident. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at First Baptist Church in Vinton with Pastor Jared Cline officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and one hour before services Friday at the church. Burial will
be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton.
Sue was born Jan. 10, 1947, in Vinton,
the daughter of Albert and Viola Walter Vaupel. She grew up and attended school in Vinton, graduating in 1965. On June 1, 1969, she married Arlan Hollenbeck at First Baptist Church in Vinton. Sue graduated and received her teaching certification from the University of Northern Iowa. Sue taught elementary school in Orange Township, Reinbeck and Vinton, retiring after 40-plus years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing and gardening, but her greatest joy came from time spent with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her mother, Viola, Vinton; her husband of 48 years, Arlan, Vinton; sons, Dr. Ryan (Amanda) Hollenbeck, Cedar Rapids, and Joel (Mandi Collar) Hollenbeck, Vinton; sisters, Shirley Kusel, Brooklyn, and Patty (Jim) Anderson, Cedar Rapids; and four grandchildren, Malea, Adalyn, Piper and Max.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert; and one brother, Gary, in infancy.
A memorial fund has been established.
