Sue was born on October 8, 1945, in Sioux City, daughter of Donald and Sarah Dahl (née Green). She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
From an early age, Sue was rarely without a book in hand. Over the years, she was an active member of several book clubs, including the Wednesday Shakespeare Club, and also participated in a women’s stock club.
Sue attended Morningside College, graduating in 1966. She met her future husband, Ronald, while working at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and they were married in 1973 in Iowa City. She went on to earn her law degree from the University of Arizona in 1976.
Service was central to Sue’s life. She volunteered for the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library for many years, served as president of Temple Judah from 1992 to 1994, and was a founding board member of the Cedar Rapids Opera. She also tirelessly devoted herself to the Foster Care Review Board of Linn and Jones Counties. In 2022, she and her fellow board members were honored with the Governor’s Volunteer Award in recognition of their dedicated service.
Sue is survived by her husband of more than 52 years, Dr. Ronald Reider; her children, Joshua Reider of Denver, Meaghan Guterman (Misha) of Milwaukee, and Eamonn Reider of Chicago; grandchildren, Maya and Eliana; her brother, D. David Dahl (Evelyn), her nieces and nephews, Seth Dahl (Lauren), Carl Reider (Dr. Lily Montoya) and Juliana Reider (Ayon Bhattacharya), children of Dr. Bruce Reider and Patricia; and the late Jeffrey Reider (Chuck Otis). She will be remembered for her sharp mind, devotion to her community, and deep love for her family.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Judah on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2 p.m., followed by burial at Eben Israel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Friends of the Cedar Rapids Public Library. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com.
