Suchan, Betty J.
Betty J. Suchan, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at West Ridge Care Center. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Officiating will be Phyl Saunders, Cedar Rapids Fire Department Chaplain. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Sunday at the chapel.
Survivors include a son, David (Wendy) Suchan of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Zachary F. Suchan of Cedar Rapids and Corey Suchan of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Robert Willson of Mankato, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward F. Suchan; and a son, Michael Suchan.
Betty was born April 9, 1924, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Nemec) Willson. She married Edward F. Suchan at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Betty was employed at Armstrong's in human resources.
She was a member of Daughters of American Colonists, Veterans Drum and Bugle Corps and volunteered at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
Betty was a very outgoing and active person. She took many friends to the Community Concerts and attended many of the plays. She liked to travel, read and education.
Betty was a very loving and caring person, making friends easily and touching many lives. Her love for her family was endless. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Donald Hilliard, Dr. Deb Wilber, Sister Mary and the staff at West Ridge Care Center and Mercy Hospice for all the loving care they gave her.
