Sturm, Gladys M. 'Mugga'
Gladys M. “Mugga” Sturm, 95, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, died Sunday, May 20, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be 1 hour before, beginning 2 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will take place at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Ray (Sandy) Sturm; daughter-in law, Kathy Sturm; brother, Richard (Alicia) Havlik; sister-in-law, Maxine Sturm; six grandchildren, Belinda (Jim) Scott, Kim (Ross) Anderson, Ted (Kim) Sturm, Bob Sturm, David (Kyoko) Sturm and Steven (Sue) Sturm; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her husband, Frank Sturm Sr.; son, Frank Jr.; grandson, Gary Sturm; brothers, Glenn (Helen) Havlik and LaVern Havlik; sister, Helen (Robert) Black; brothers-in-law, Joe and Albert Sturm; and sisters-in law, Josphine (Harry) Hendricks and Sadie (Vern) Rompot.
Gladys M. Sturm was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on July 26, 1916, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Havlik. She grew up in Stump Town and attended Hayes and Wilson Schools. On Sept. 8, 1936, she married Frank J. Sturm Sr. in Iowa City, Iowa. Together they raised two sons, Frank Jr. and Raymond Sturm.
Gladys' pride and joy was her family. She loved to talk on the phone to family and friends. On Sunday afternoons while the men watched football, her sister and two sisters-in-law would play Pinochle. She lived a long and happy life. Mugga's greatest love was her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be directed to the First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids.
