Strugariu, Dumitri
Dumitri Strugariu, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a long illness. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a special friend, Barbara Merritt, and friend, Nancy Vonahsen, both of Cedar Rapids.
Dumitri was born in Romania, the son on Ilic and Josefina (Manikovski) Strugariu. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1950. Dumitri graduated from Marion High School, where he excelled in academics as well as in sports. He married Carolyn Stone on Nov. 8, 1971, in Solon. She died in 1996.
Dumitri worked at Qualex for over 10 years. He was a member of the NRA and the Smithsonian Institution. He enjoyed reading, all sports, especially football, as well as spending time with his friends.
A memorial fund has been established in Dumitri's name.
