Struck, Lois M.
Lois M. Struck, 76, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, following an extended illness. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave, Vinton. Private committal services will be held at the Keystone Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Lois was born Nov. 8, 1934, at Van Horne, to Anton and Mathilda (Lauterwasser) Hessenius and graduated from the Van Horne High School in 1952. She then received her Registered Nursing Degree at Broadlawns in Des Moines. Lois served as a registered nurse at Virginia Gay Hospital for over 40 years, retiring in 1999, and as a nurse for Dr. Daly in Cedar Rapids until 2001.
On Nov. 15, 1958, she was united in marriage to Robert Struck at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall.
Lois's greatest passion was her family. She enjoyed volunteering at Youngville Cafe, knitting, crocheting, gardening and camping and fishing.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Van Horne; her children, Kimberly (Dustin) Reynolds of Vinton, Pamela Lines of Cedar Rapids, and Christopher (Melissa) Struck of Keystone; her special grandnephew, Kevin Langton; six granddaughters; one grandson; one great-grandson; and her sisters, Ruth Jahlas of Deep River, Carol Wachter of Tennessee, and Joan (Russell) Lindberg of Vinton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Roger Lines; and three sisters, Lucille Hartman, Rosella Fruendt and Dorothy Runyon.
